<description>thanks, Robert-you said what others have told me and not having priced doing it at costco, I wanted to start with someone who I knew would have experience with it! I saw the Plustek on sale for $249 and thought that sounded reasonable--just didn&#039;t know how labor intensive even with a good scanner the task would be.

thanks again!

		<description>Toni,
Alas, the big name brand film scanners have gone the way of the steam locomotive. I have an ancient Polaroid scanner and Nikon, Canon and Minolta all abandoned the scanner business. The Nikon scanner is still available used online and is held in high regard but the software is no longer supported, to the best of my knowledge, which means you will have to use third party software like Vue Scan which is excellent. The only 2 players in the game today at a reasonable price point are Plustek Optic and Pacific Image. Both companies make a multitude of models. You can probably find reviews on DP Review or Luminous Landscape.

More importantly do you know what you are getting into? It&#039;s no Zerox copier. The scanning process is laborious. You need to clean the slide, then scan it, adjust the preview and scan again. Furthermore many of the mounts had rounded corners so you are either going to spend some time cropping or giving the content fill tool a workout in Photoshop. You might want to consider editing your slides down to the very best and use one of the scanning services. You can probably get several thousand slides scanned for what you will have invested in a scanner.

		<description>Hi Robert
I just read this and want to address the beginning of your message. I am looking for a good quality (but not outrageous ly priced) slide and film scanner--have looked on line and don&#039;t know which was to go.

Do you know of sites that can give a balanced critique of various brands and models? Or do you have experience with a brand you like? I have thousands of slides from the last 30 years; some of them really good. I want to start digitizing them soon.

thanks for your answer and happy new year!

		<description>Marty,
Sorry for the delayed response. Call me anytime to discuss Lightroom.

You can sign up for the Color Management Workshop through Cascade Center of Photography or just bring a check. Look forward to seeing you.
